Driffield GroupOne of our smaller groups, but friendly and active, with over 90 members. We expect a celebration soon when they reach their "century"! Members of the group have recently published a set of leaflets describing walks near Driffield, details from the secretary. Click here to read the April 2010 newsletter page 1 and page 2. Click here for the group's programme of walks. Excerpts from Driffield Group Secretary's Report 2007-8 The number of members in the Group remains fairly static; new members almost matching the lapsed ones. The “East Riding Walks Series” has been put on CD and copies are available. The six circular walks are from: Wetwang, Bainton, North Newbald, Watton, North Grimston and Goodmanham. They are on sale for £0.50 (or £1.50 including postage and packing). There are also some sets of printed leaflets in a clear plastic envelope, on sale for £3.00 (including postage). Contact John Jefferson for copies. During the year our leaders took us on twelve varied and interesting walks. One new leader came forward. There is still the constant challenge to find some more members to commit to joining the depleted committee. We also urgently need new walks leaders to ease the burden. Frank Dean, our acting chairman, is leading four of the eleven walks. David Hamilton has printed some 150 postcards with a footpath problem report form on one side. It is addressed to Rights Of Way at East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC). It is hoped it will make reporting problems simpler and more members will report obstructions or missing signs with them. Don Laing prints a selection of the walks from the programme every week in the Driffield Times with a short article. Some potential new members notice these. John Jefferson gets telephone calls from users of the East Yorkshire Ramblers website. We received a questionnaire from the Bridlington to Spurn Point Shoreline Management Forum. This was returned declaring our interest in retaining and improving the footpaths along this coastline. A representative of the Driffield Ramblers was invited to a meeting at Sewerby Hall. ERYC are completing a CONNECT2 Cycle Project, spending £1.2M over three years. The project is jointly sponsored by SUSTRANS and the Council’s Local Transport Plan. It will link Carnaby - Bridlington – Flamborough with a recreational and cycling route. There will also be better with links to Public Transport connections. John Jefferson, Secretary
