Pocklington RA Group 2007-2008
Pocklington Group has had another successful year with membership remaining well
above the 200 mark. Over the course of the year the group has put on over 150
walks which has required a great organisational input and I would like to
particularly offer a strong word of thanks to our many leaders without whose
enthusiastic participation this would not be possible. We have continued the
regular programme of walks every Wednesday and alternate Saturday and Sundays
together with shorter weekend and evening walks, as well as the monthly longer
distance walks organised by Jack Hutchinson. The group also had full weeks
away in Hassness and the Isle of Wight, a party of 15 members spent a fortnight
walking in Crete and we also had our regular weekend breaks at Kettlewell and
Clapham.
As ever at Pocklington there has been a strong social programme with staples
such as the barn dance and gliding as well as some new activities all
co-ordinated enthusiastically by our social secretary Christine Spencer.
Christine has now retired from her post and has been replaced by a new social
committee who will continue and build on her brilliant work. There have been a
number of committee changes. Monica Isle, our publicity officer and
founder, has stepped down from the group committee. Her contribution to
the group over the years has been enormous. Fortunately, it will continue as
thankfully she will be taking a strong hand in organising our social events.
Sue Grant has also stepped down as Chair and thanks are also due to her for her
excellent steering of the group in the last two years. Replacements are all in
post and eager to get on with making 2009 an even better year than 2008.
In particular, we are looking to introduce more new walks into the programme for
2009/10 and our new walks secretary, Tony Corrigan, is already planning
enthusiastically.
