Scarborough and District RA Group
Walks News
Our Sunday walks programme offered walks most weeks during the year and our
thanks go to Ray Johnson, Rambles Organiser, and the team of dedicated leaders
for the work involved in providing such a variety. Numbers varied but usually
attract around 12 to 15. A programme of shorter walks, taking place on
Thursdays and ending with a pub lunch, was organised by Margaret Ingham.
Weekly evening walks were arranged by Ray during the summer months.
Attendance was variable, possibly due to the bad weather, but usually attracted
around 6.
Footpath News
Les Atkinson has worked extremely hard on many footpath problems during the
year and has built up a good rapport working with members of NYMNPA. A
couple of his main successes have been –
Work was done to replace a footbridge at Stoup Beck and Scarborough Group had
photos and publicity articles in the local press. The diversion around Red
House farm is finally open after twelve years of involvement by Scarborough
Group footpath officers.
Social News
Over 30 group members enjoyed the pre Christmas walk and carvery, which was
again held at Hayburn Wyke Hotel and arranged by Peter Fahy. A “Secret Santa”
gift idea was introduced and proved very popular.
Thanks go to Lisa Crozier, Social Secretary, who once again masterminded an
enjoyable programme of monthly dining out and socializing at various local
establishments. Members and friends have enjoyed a good variety of cuisine
during the year. Amongst the most popular venues were the Glass House Bistro at
North Bay, the Yew Tree at Scalby and the Everley at Hackness.
A Scarborough Group Newsletter was produced and sent out with the September Area
News and it is hoped that this will become a regular feature. Our thanks go to
Margaret Atkinson for the time and effort involved in getting it off the ground.
