How can you support the RA and its aims?

The Ramblers' Association is Britain's biggest charity working to promote walking and to improve conditions for all walkers. With almost 140,000 members in England, Scotland and Wales, it has been working for walkers for 70 years.

The Association has offices in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff with paid staff, but otherwise relies on teams of local volunteers to support its work:  promoting walking as a healthy activity, safeguarding the footpath network, protecting the countryside, providing information and increasing access for walkers.

Find out more about the work of the RA...

There are a number of ways in which you can support the RA in its work:

  • Join the association, even if you do not wish to walk with a group or are already a member of a walking club.  The RA works for all walkers nation-wide.
  • Volunteer to support your local teams.  There's scope for anyone with a little spare time to get involved in a wide variety of activities with like-minded people.  No special skills required, free "on the job" training!.
  • Ask your walking club to consider affiliated membership of the RA (one subscription per club) in order to receive our newsletters, have representation at our Area Councils, keep in touch with local developments and get help dealing with footpath problems etc
