Bluebell Woods
Thanks to local RA members who have told us where to find a bluebell wood.  Among them:

Bratt Wood                SE 845 485 near Nunburnholme

Hagg Wood                SE 685 525 near Dunnington

Stittenham Wood       SE 678 680 NE of Sheriff Hutton

Sutton Wood              SE 710 485  This can be visited on a circular walk from Sutton-on-Derwent

Burton Bushes bluebell walk (Beverley Westwood)    TA 014 396
This wood is easily accessible from the main A1079 York Road. You can park nearby opposite the race-course buildings, about a mile from the centre of Beverley.  From here head west up towards Burton Gate House, then bear left to enter the wood at a kissing-gate with information boards. The track leads along the western edge of the wood where bluebells abound in May. It can be muddy, wellies recommended after wet weather!
After about 400 yards, another kissing gate leads onto the Westwood. Either retrace your steps, or go left then left again outside the wood to return to the start. There are fine views towards Beverley Minster and Black Mill and several well-placed benches. A lovely, family stroll which can easily be extended.

A Wildflower Walk from Sinnington
In April you should find an abundance of primroses, violets and wood anemones along this route.

Access Walks
The walks below have been devised by our Access team to incorporate new "Freedom to Roam" areas:

Millington High Level Circuit (10 miles)

Millington Short Access Walk (5 miles)
We hope members will send in more of their own favourite walks for inclusion in this section.  In the meantime, here are some excellent websites which provide routes of walks you can try out in our area:

www.eastriding.gov.uk/eastriding/walks/index.htm
Provides route descriptions and printable maps of walks in the East Riding of Yorkshire.  It also has a useful "walks search" button which helps you to specify the start point or length of walk required.

www.yorkshirewalks.org
"Frank's Walking Diary".  This site includes a number of printable routes mainly in the North York Moors National Park , plus an impressive photographic record of many others walks to inspire you to try more.

www.walkingenglishman.com
Mike Brockhurst's site provides a selection of routes in East and North Yorkshire with maps and descriptions, as well as a guide to the Wolds Way and other long distance routes in sections.

www.dalestrails.freeserve.co.uk
Arnold Underwood's site provides a number of circular routes in our area as well as an introduction to the linear routes devised by him in the Yorkshire Dales known as the "Trans-Dales Trails".

http://countrywalks.defra.gov.uk
This website provides information about short, special interest walks on permissive paths mainly around farms. Some of these link into the footpath network.

If you have come across other useful websites like these, please let us have details for this page and for our Area News publication.
