East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Ramblers

walking to protect our local countryside

Sinnington Bridge webWhere are we?

The geographical area of our group takes in an exciting mixture of scenic countryside. We are spoilt for choice, enjoying the beauty of the Vale of Pickering, Yorkshire Wolds Way, Howardian Hills and of course the southern end of North York Moors National Park.

Pickering, Helmsley, Malton, Thixendale and many other locations attract walkers and tourists generally from far afield.

To see where we are, have a look at our map and the parishes within our area by clicking Ryedale.

If you are interested in becoming a member and reside in one of the named parishes on the map [essentially post codes  YO17, YO18, YO60 and YO62] you will be allocated to our group, unless you state otherwise. Once a member you are eligible to walk with any Ramblers Association group throughout the country.

Byland Abbey The North York Moors National Park features greatly in our full programme of circular walks of varying lengths throughout the year. In addition there is normally a linear walk in stages over the course of each year involving linking coach travel, (e.g. The Cleveland Way).  During the summer of each year a full-day coach ramble is arranged outside Ryedale's normal area.

For up to date information on social activities, coach rambles and meetings have a look at events and meetings by clicking on the DIARY tab.

Email List

Many members signed up for this additional form of communication that allows us to quickly and efficiently keep you informed. Electronic communication is an effective method of expenditure saving in these  financially difficult times.

A large amount of volunteer time and postage money is spent distributing information that could easily be done by email. So if you have not already signed up then please contact our secretary. We will only send what we think is important or worthwhile, we will not reveal your email address to any third party and your email address will be hidden on any communication from us.

Navigation Training

Beacon Banks Bluebells Ryedale like most groups is always looking for volunteers to lead walks. To assist in this direction a navigation skills training package was developed intended for existing and potential leaders.

Several sessions have now been delivered  with feedback being very complimentary. Further courses will be organised as required.

So if you're a leader or would like to lead for Ryedale in the future and want to improve your navigation skills, please get in touch with us.

Training is also open to members of other groups or, if a group is interested in putting on similar training for their members and would like some help we would be delighted to assist.
