East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Ramblers

walking to protect our local countryside

P1040443Additional to our splendid coastline, lovely inland areas include the more wooded south-eastern part of the North York Moors National Park, the Vale of Pickering and the northern Yorkshire Wolds.

Walks take place on most Sundays of the year and there are mid-week evening walks in the summer. You can see these on the Scarborough web site by clicking WALKS.

Social events include regular meals out and theatre trips, and group holidays are also organised.

For a map of our group area and to see the parishes within it click Scarborough.

If you are interested in becoming a member and reside in one of the named parishes on the map [essentially post codes YO11, YO12, YO13 and YO14] you will be allocated to our group, unless you state otherwise. Once a member you are eligible to walk with any Ramblers Association group throughout the country.

Our group has created a local website www.scarboroughramblers.co.uk

Area Camp, Middleton-in-Teesdale, 9-12th June2017

Message from Harry Whitehouse

Summer camp 2017'Phil Trafford and I, with Bob Clutson's assistance, visited the area of the late spring camp on February 16, did a preliminary recce of one of the full-day walks, and confirmed the venue for the camp.

This will be Leekworth Caravan and Camping Park, Leekworth Lane, Middleton, DL12 0TL,
NGR NY959 248, three-quarters of a mile from the town centre.

It is beside the River Tees, in beautiful surroundings, with a brand new shower and toilet block.

Our party will be together in an adults-only area, with a no-noise policy after 10.30pm.

Single occupancy of a tent is charged at £8.50 a night, and double occupancy costs £16.50. Electrical hook-ups are available.

I shall make a block booking for tents, and I shall ask for a deposit nearer the date.

I know that several people have already made B&B bookings in the area, and others may wish to do so now, using the details I supplied with the last email. (Please contact me if you would like me to send a repeat.)

The site has a small cottage, with a double bed, en suite bathroom and catering facilities, for £205 for the three nights of the camp, and this can be booked online at caravancampingteesdale.co.uk .

(In April, we will hold our usual two-night pre-camp to finalise the walk schedule.)

If I can be of further help, or if you hope to attend but have not yet contacted me, please
phone 07535 892131 or email hltw@peaksoft.co.uk
