Welcome to the website of the East Yorkshire and Derwent area of the Ramblers' Association.
STOP PRESS!
Amendment to start point of Scarborough Group Walk Sunday 4th July Because of road closure due to repairs, DO NOT TRY TO GET TO THE START VIA THE CARLTON ROAD FROM HELMSLEY!!! Follow directions for Bransdale from Kirbymoorside.Come up the eastern side of the dale and round the head past Cockayne. Park on the grass near the gate where the road works are taking place. The start and finish of my original walk are inaccesible from there so I am currently planning an alternative route! Hope to see you there, Judy Trafford We hope our website will help you to
Our predominantly rural area includes the land from York to the east coast, and from the River Humber up to the North York Moors National Park. “Derwent” refers to the southern part of North Yorkshire. Our delightful range of countryside includes:
▪ the undulating chalk Wolds with their hidden valleys,
▪ rich agricultural land in the Vale of York, the Plain of Holderness, and the rolling Howardian Hills,
▪ a fine coastline from Spurn Point, via Bempton cliffs with its sea-bird colonies, up to Scarborough,
▪ historic towns like Beverley, Driffield, Malton, Pocklington, and of course, the cities of York and Hull,
▪ and, next to our northern boundary, the magnificent North York Moors.
If you are travelling to the area, there are good train links via York and Hull and easy road access via the M62 and A1. There is a regular ferry service from Hull to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.
